Scarborough Ladies’ 1st Team Face Double Header Weekend
Scarborough Ladies’ 1st Team vs. Ben Rhydding Ladies 3s & Leeds University Ladies 3s
Scarborough Ladies’ 1st team faced a challenging double-header weekend, taking on the league’s top two teams, Ben Rhydding Ladies 3s and Leeds University Ladies 3s. After over a month away from competitive hockey, the team returned with renewed determination, delivering some of their finest performances this season.
Saturday: Scarborough 2-2 Ben Rhydding Ladies 3s
The first match against Ben Rhydding served as an opportunity for the team to rediscover their rhythm. Scarborough’s midfield, orchestrated by Katy Outhart, enabled fluid and effective short-passing play, setting the tone for an intense battle.
Forwards Beth Black and Harriet Stephenson showcased relentless energy with their powerful sprints up the pitch, leading to several chances at short corners. Stephenson capitalised on these opportunities, scoring both of Scarborough’s goals in clinical fashion.
On the defensive end, Scarborough held their ground admirably against a well-drilled Ben Rhydding side. Goalkeeper Becks Laylor was a standout, making a series of brilliant saves to keep the team in contention. Despite their efforts, Ben Rhydding managed to break through twice, ending the match in a hard-fought 2-2 draw.
Sunday: Scarborough 0-2 Leeds University Ladies 3s
Scarborough entered Sunday’s clash against league leaders Leeds University Ladies 3s with the same passion and energy displayed the day before. However, they were met with the intensity and precision of a top-class side.
The defence, led by Georgia Holdsworth, worked tirelessly to fend off wave after wave of Leeds attacks. Holdsworth’s sweeping clearances and sharp decision-making proved crucial in keeping the game within reach. While Scarborough battled valiantly, they were unable to find the back of the net against the well-organised opposition. Leeds capitalised on their chances, resulting in a 2-0 defeat.
Players of the Weekend
Despite the mixed results, the Scarborough team played with heart and determination. Special mentions were given to Becks Laylor for her heroic saves, Harriet Stephenson for her attacking contributions, Georgia Holdsworth for her defensive excellence, and Ally Allison for her efforts across both matches.
Scarborough Ladies’ 1st team now looks ahead to another double-header weekend, aiming to build on their performances and secure two wins. Their grit and teamwork from this weekend leave no doubt that they are capable of rising to the challenge!
