Scarborough M1 Beat Sheffield University Bankers HC M3s (4-6)
Scarborough Men’s 1st team travelled to Sheffield for a late 3 pm pushback, knowing they would need to be at their best against a team that hadn’t dropped a point all season.
First Half Overview
Scarborough started strong, and early play down the left between Burlinson and Thompson created an opportunity for Wontroba, who finished on his reverse to open the scoring. Soon after, Topar added a second with a penalty corner conversion, and Priel made it 3-0 with another penalty corner. Just before the break, Sheffield converted a chance against the run of play, making it 3-1 to Scarborough at halftime.
Second Half Overview
Scarborough continued to dominate after the break. Rogers intercepted a cross-field ball from the Sheffield defence and calmly finished to make it 4-1. Priel's great run down the wing led to Engelberts deflecting the ball, which Wontroba touched home for his second, extending the lead to 5-1. Engelberts wasn’t done and made it 6-1 after dribbling past multiple defenders and finishing from the top of the D. However, the game became more stretched when Scarborough’s captain, Thompson, received a green card for a comment made by a substitute. Sheffield quickly took advantage, scoring two goals in rapid succession and adding a third five minutes later to make it 6-4 with just three minutes to play.
Conclusion
Scarborough held on for the win, securing a hard-fought victory that puts them second in the league. Next weekend, they’ll face first-place Ramgarhia in Scarborough, in what promises to be a thrilling clash.
